Being a land of color and contrasts, the quiet colonial background, resort cities, and jungles with parrots and monkeys make it a must-visit place. From remote deserts to majestic mountains, pueblo houses and ruins of Mayan cities lie outside the modern metropolises.

The capital is a historical center with museums and chic shopping opportunities. Let’s drive to this amazing place.

1. Chichen Itza:

If you are looking for the most famous Mayan sites, then Chichen Itza is the right place. It’s the most impressive and visited place on Yucatan Peninsula.

But the main and ironic reason behind this is that it is not the same as the classic Mayan structure but holds a strong influence from central Mexico.

Because of its astounding archeological ruins, no debate it made itself listed in the New 7 Wonders Of The World.

2. Tulum:

The ruins of Maya City are located on the rocky cliff of the Yucatan Peninsula was built post the classic period.

It is of modest scale and less elegant in comparison to other Mayan structures as it was built during the downfall of the culture. However, it holds its uniqueness because of Tropical beach backdrops.

The famous monument El Castillo, which is 25 feet tall makes Tulum the most visited place in the Caribbean.

Once covered with stucco and painted, the small shrine now is being used as a beacon for incoming canoes. Once they come ashore, tourists visit the Mayan ruins with a dip in the Caribbean.

Tulum has three different areas namely:

  • Tulum Pueblo – At the highway South of the Coba Junction, buses from the town center go to Cancun, Merida, Playa Del Carmen, and Valladolid frequently.
  • Tulum Paya Or Zona Hotelera – Extending more than 6 miles, is a great white sandy beach at the Caribbean coastline.
  • Tulum Ruinas – A famous archeological site.

3. Teotihuacan:

50 Kilometers to the Northeast of Mexico City, is a paradise of the largest awe-struck pyramid structures.

It is one of the most influential cities in America but the origin and identity of its founders are yet to be known.

In the zenith’s first half of the very first millennium, huge temples and palaces were built. After it was left abandoned by the Aztecs, they named the city Teotihuacan – “ birthplace of the Gods”, as they believed it was a universal creation.

Among the well-reserved murals, the Pyramid Of The Sun and the Pyramid Of The Moon are two distant standouts.

Also, don’t miss to watch out for giant Manta Rays and dolphins, and if you plan your visit between December and March, the humpback whales will be there to welcome you.
